Well, with almost all the organs formed, your baby would now be in a complete formed stage and the organs have to develop to completeness, the foetus has to gain weight and your body has to prepare for a smooth delivery in this third trimester.
Week 28 – Eye Opener
Your baby is now almost 10 inches long from the crown to rump. Weight gain happens slowly and at present you baby would be of around 1 Kg, this gain in weight would make him/her look healthy easing out the wrinkles formed on the skin.
Your baby now knows what is happening around him/her. On the 28th week your baby slightly begins opening the eyelids, actually only partially and the eyelashes grow. Your baby now would be able to know what the surroundings is like and the process of preparation to enter the external world begins.
By some reason if there is an emergency delivery on the 28th week you can be 90% sure of the baby being healthy.
Week 29 ? Stronger Bones
During this week your baby would begin developing stronger bones.
Week 30 ? RBC
Red Blood Corpuscles, which develop in the bone marrow, begins this week. Your baby would have become stronger and increased to around 1.3 Kgs in weight. The length too would have increased from 10 inches to 12 inches.
There will be hair growing well on the head in this week and your baby would have learnt to fully open his/her eyes.
Week 31 ? Nervous System Develops
The brain function becomes more specific and you child would by now have developed the capacity of having a controlled body temperature. This is controlled by the central nervous system of your child. The sexuality of your child also becomes well defined.
Week 32 ? Breathing Exercise
Your baby will be around 12 inches long and weigh about 1.7Kg.
The lungs of your baby are not yet fully formed, yet small movements such as breathing is seen in this week. Your baby?s small feet slowly begin growing nails on the toes. Tiny toe nails would be visible this week. Lanugo- or the soft hair that had been protecting the skin of your baby falls off and the baby begins absorbing minerals through the intestinal tract.
Week 33 ? Light Detection
Your baby is now able to detect strong light due to pupil contraction and expansion. Your baby?s movement also become controlled and you would know exactly when he/she is turning from one side to another.
Week 34 ? Finger Finger
This week you baby would be about 14 to 15 inches long from the crown to rump, and would weigh around 2 Kgs now. His/hers fingers have now formed completely and the tiny finger nails appear to be growing.
A white pasty covering called the vernix caseosa, over the baby seems to begin showing its existence.
Week 35 ? Positioning
Slowly your baby who is around 15 to 16 inches long move towards the upside down position preparing himself or herself to go down to the path from where he/she would visit the world outside. The redness of the baby?s skin is reduced and the Vernix Caseosa becomes thicker around your baby.
The baby is now in the beginning stage of rapid weight gain.
Week 36 ? Kicks and Punches
Your baby now is a robust weight gaining phase, thus leaving lesser and lesser space inside your uterus. Make sure to count number of kicks per hour and note down the average per hour. The movement may not be as quick and strong as it was during earlier months because of less space.
Make a chart of the kicks and punches. Your baby would be 16 to 18 inches long and now on there would be good weight gain reaching the full growth stage.
Week 37 ? Ready To Go
Your baby has reached the full term now, with all organs reaching the fully grown sate. He/she is safe now and you have to be ready for him/her anytime within the next three weeks. The head would now descend towards the pelvis and you have to check while you get the scan done whether he/she is in the right position.
Week 38 ? Firm, Firmer, Firmest
Your baby is now developing firm grasp. The finger and toe nails are fully grown; there is no clue of lanugo and he / she is still gaining weight.
Baby weight about 2.5 Kgs now and the brain is fully developed. He/she is now a person and knows things happening around.
Week 39 ? Fighter
Now with everything done, you baby needs antibodies to fight as soon as he/she comes out and this is what happens here after. Chest becomes noticeable and sexual organs of boys become more prominent.
Week 40 ? At Last
Your due date would finally come with your baby coming out 18 to 20 inches long and weighing 2.5 to 3 Kgs. Do not be alarmed if the weight varies, there is no thumb rule for a healthy baby. From 38 to 40 weeks you may get the pain any time and hence you have to be ready for your baby to struggle out anytime between these days.
Some children may come out even a little later. However it is advisable to be in regular check-ups from 36 week onwards and get proper suggestions from your physician.
