WHO Warns World to Reduce Antibiotics in Livestock

?Scientists from China discovered bacteria resistant in all antibiotics and few days later in Denmark Scientists found genetically mutated bug?.

The bacteria found in China are called MCR -1. MCR -1 bacteria genes are basically inevitable and cannot be cured. Colistin is used when all other antibiotics fail, but this bacteria is even resistant to colistin. As per the research these bacteria is mainly found on livestock?s like chickens and pigs. China is the largest colistin producing country and also the largest users in livestock.

WHO WARNING

In 2012 World Health Organization has already warned about using the antibiotics to livestock?s and humans are dreadful and has to be minimized. But inspite of the warning from the World Health Organization the farmers all over the world inject antibiotics to their livestock so they get healthier and are free from other diseases. By research it is found that MCR-1 bacteria move easily between the strains of E ? Coli and other bacteria causing many blood, urinary and gut infections.

MEDICAL ANTIBIOTOICS ON LIVESTOCK

It is found that consumption of antibiotics is more in livestock?s than humans. Human who takes more antibiotics also face the problem of resistant bacteria. Antibiotics are important to get rid of certain infections and diseases but must be used minimal. Farmers worldwide feed colistin antibiotic for chickens for fattening. In US 70 percent of the medical antibiotics are used on chickens. This increase the resistance in everyone and thus a policy maker has to get involved with severe punishments if they fail to follow the policy.

We know that California is a big agricultural state, being so it has also taken the first step towards banning the antibiotics intake in livestock for any reasons other than medically to treat illness and diseases. , thus California becomes the First state which has signed the bill. The bill was declared mainly after it was found that the overdose of these antibiotics contributes to 2 million illness and 23,000 deaths, caused by super bug drug resistant every year.

It?s spreading to humans because we consume these livestock which are fed with these antibiotics. Only 30 percent of antibiotics are consumed by humans. The transfer rate at which the MCR-1 is copied and transfer between different bacteria is very high, it has a potential to even spread into other epidemic pathogenic bacteria?s. It interferes with all the pathogens in human body causing various diseases.

FOOD AND DRUG ASSOCIATION PROGRAM

The Food and Drug Association initiated a voluntary program in Dec 2013 to stop the overdose of the antibiotics for livestock, wherein not to use on them for making them grow big in size but only minimal to protect them from diseases, but this was not a strict step but entirely depends on the industry to decide to join or not. It was designed mainly to reduce the use of antibiotics on livestock and resistant free illness on humans. It limits the use of antibiotics like penicillin and tetracycline which are more used on humans. Farmers these days use these antibiotics to enhance the growth of the animals in a short span. The FDA?s is a right step but is not enough as it is firstly voluntary and secondly the farmers can still use these drugs stating that they are using it to protect their animals from diseases. Thus all the countries have to ban antibiotics on animals and protect the lives of human from these resistant diseases.
